Meet Our Staff
Founder - Lance Johnson
Lance started the flag and flagpole business in Puget Sound upon retiring from the U.S. Navy in late 2000 as a Chief Journalist. He served mostly in the Deep South and West Coast in addition to an assignment off Beirut aboard battleship USS NEW JERSEY and five deployments to the Arabian Gulf aboard aircraft carriers USS INDEPENDENCE and USS NIMITZ. He also helped promote and coordinate Department of Defense participation in annual New Orleans Mardi Gras, Seattle Seafair, and Portland Rose Festival events.
He relocated his business to Spokane Valley in 2005 and operated a storefront at Spokane's NorthTown Mall from 2008-2016, as well as a holiday-only storefront at Spokane Valley Mall since 2019. Uncle Sam's current storefront on Sprague Ave near Evergreen Road opened on February 1, 2022. Lance is now retired, after selling the business to long-time patron (and more recently, employee), James Martin in July 2023. You may still see him around the store from time to time, but he is keeping pretty busy being retired...
